The people of Ukwa la Ngwa have unanimously adopted Governor Alex Otti as their consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election at a grand civic reception held in his honour at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
The historic event, which took place on Friday, January 30, 2026, attracted an unprecedented crowd drawn from the nine local government areas that make up the Ukwa la Ngwa bloc in Abia State and beyond.
The reception was chaired by former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara and brought together a galaxy of stakeholders, including top government officials, traditional rulers, clergy, political leaders, captains of industry, professionals, market associations and members of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Abia State Chapter, led by its President, Dr. C. C. Okwuonu.
The atmosphere was electrifying as musicians and cultural troupes thrilled the massive crowd.
Governor Otti’s arrival further heightened excitement as he went round the stadium acknowledging cheers from enthusiastic supporters.
In his opening remarks after prayers by the Catholic Bishop of Aba, Rt. Rev. Prof. Augustine Ndubueze Echema, Senator Wabara described the reception as a non-partisan event organized in honour of Governor Alex Otti whose performance is built on verifiable achievements.
He noted that the large turnout was spontaneous and organic, reflecting the genuine appreciation of a people who have directly felt the impact of his purposeful leadership.
According to him, the visible transformation across Abia State, particularly the timely completion of Port Harcourt Road in Aba, has silenced critics of his administration.
Wabara said the decision to honour Governor Otti was a demonstration of solidarity with his people-oriented administration and expressed confidence that, if re-elected, he would take Abia State to even greater heights.
Speaking on behalf of stakeholders from the nine local government areas of Ukwa la Ngwa, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial District, affirmed that Governor Otti has changed the narrative in all sectors and deserves the collective support of the people.
Also speaking, Chief Theo Nkire, the leader and spokesperson of Ukwa la Ngwa, described the event as a celebration of the remarkable progress recorded in the area and different parts of the state.
He said the governor had, within a short period, transformed Aba into a modern industrial hub and revived critical sectors of the state economy.

In his response, Governor Otti expressed deep appreciation to the people of Ukwa la Ngwa for the honour done him, describing it as a reflection of their love and acceptance of his leadership.
He thanked them for their commitment, including their resolve to raise funds for his re-election nomination form and urged them to mobilize residents who are yet to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor further appealed to citizens to protect government infrastructure in their communities and maintain a clean and healthy environment.

Commenting on the event, the Executive Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Anyanwu Obialor, said Governor Otti overwhelmingly deserves the honour.
He noted that Aba has benefitted immensely from massive road reconstruction, including Port Harcourt Road, Ohanku Road among others adding that the establishment of an export hub at the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic has boosted economic activities in the city.
“Our schools and health centres are being renovated. Property values in Aba have increased significantly because of infrastructural development. The people are happy, and we have resolved to return Governor Otti to Government House in 2027,” Obialor said.

The Executive Mayor of Ukwa East LGA, Hon. Pastor Chibunna Akara, described the reception as a welcome development, noting that the governor’s performance is visible and verifiable.
“Governor Otti met nothing on ground, yet he has changed the narrative. Every project he has executed is for the good of the people. Our prayer is that God grants him strength, wisdom and resources to do more,” he added.

Former Chairman of Aba South LGA, Hon. Chima Mbama, said the event transcended political affiliations.
“We are here to celebrate the New Abia. Good governance has added value to our lives. Roads are now motorable, workers are paid on time and environmental sanitation has improved. These are things we can see and feel,” he stated.

The President of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Abia State Chapter, Dr. C. C. Okwuonu, praised the governor for his achievements in road construction, education, health, agriculture and security.
He stressed that Otti’s re-election in 2027 is necessary to consolidate the ongoing transformation in the state.

The Chairman of Ekeoha Shopping Centre, Aba, Comrade Emeka Okeke, popularly known as Mecon Global described the reception as a fitting recognition of Governor Alex Otti (Chioma Ndi Abia) for bringing hope to Abians.
He recalled that Port Harcourt Road, Aba, had been abandoned for decades before Governor Otti’s intervention, adding that its reconstruction has revived businesses along the corridor.
“Governor Otti’s achievements in two and half years cannot be compared with what his predecessors did in 24 years. He has no rival in 2027 because his performance speaks for itself,” Okeke declared.

Other stakeholders, including Hon. Theo Molokwu, Chairman of Uratta Integrated Market, and Chief Aro Benjamin, Chairman of Good Morning Market, Aba, affirmed the traders’ unwavering support for the governor.
They noted that improved security, better roads and prompt payment of salaries have restored confidence in governance and assured that the markets would mobilize fully for his re-election.
Other prominent Abians from different walks of life agreed that the massive turnout was a testament to Governor Otti’s outstanding performance and the widespread acceptance of his leadership.

With the overwhelming endorsement from Ukwa la Ngwa, political observers believe that the Abia State governorship seat in 2027 may well be Governor Alex Otti’s to retain.
