Chief Godfrey Kanu Hails Gov. Otti’s Transformational Strides in Abia
Chief Godfrey O. C. Kanu (JP), the President General of Amasa Progressive Union and Chairman, Stakeholders’ Forum of the Labour Party, Osisioma local government area of Abia State has commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR), for what he described as quality leadership and massive infrastructural transformation in the state within two and a half years in office.
Chief Kanu gave the commendation while speaking with newsmen during the burial of Her Royal Majesty, Ugoeze Deaconess Charity Ugbonma Olewengwa in Osisioma last week.
The Labour Party chieftain, described as amiable and articulate, noted that Governor Otti has performed remarkably well since assuming office, insisting that Abia would have become an “El Dorado” if such leadership had been witnessed over the years.
He praised the Governor for the ongoing road revolution across the state, particularly in Aba and Umuahia.
He cited the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Port Harcourt Road in Aba, the six-lane Ossah Road in Umuahia, and numerous other projects as evidence of a holistic infrastructural agenda witnessed in the state under his administration.
Chief Kanu further stated that Governor Otti’s impact is not limited to road projects, pointing out significant reforms in health, agriculture, security, trade and investment, education, and prompt payment of workers’ salaries.
According to him, the Governor has remained consistent in allocating the UNESCO-stipulated 26 percent of the state’s budget to the education sector, leading to the rehabilitation of many schools and recruitment of qualified teachers.
“Education is key to national development. Today, Abia is going digital, and those not equipped with computer-based knowledge may find it difficult to fit into the new order,” he said.
He added that job opportunities are emerging in the state, but only those with requisite skills will take advantage of them.
Chief Kanu described Governor Otti as a “special gift and answer to the prayers of the people of Abia State,” applauding his prudent management of limited state resources and his efforts toward reviving the local economy.
He called on the people of Osisioma and Abia at large to sustain their support for the Governor and urged residents who have not obtained, replaced, or transferred their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) to visit the council headquarters and complete their registration.
“With what Governor Otti has accomplished in such a short time, if he is given another chance, Abia will surely arise,” he concluded.
