Dr. Alex Otti Should Adopt Community Policing in Fight Against Insecurity in Abia

-Hon. Chinedu Ikwueche Anyachukwu

An Aba resident and member of Dr. Alex Otti Support Group (Abia for Good Governance), Hon. Chile Ikwueche Anyachukwu has called on the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR) to adopt Community Policing as part of the security measures aimed at tackling the recent upsurge in insecurity in Aba following the killing of five soldiers at Obikabia junction and two policemen at Opobo junction, Ogbor Hill, Aba recently.

He expressed worry that if nothing is done immediately to halt the ugly trend that it would slow down Dr. Alex Otti’s developmental strides in Aba and scare investors away from Abia State.

He appreciated the efforts of government in fighting insecurity in the state but advised the governor to adopt Community Policing in tackling the ugly situation.

According to him, community policing is nearest to the people. They know all the nooks and crannies of Aba as well as the hideouts of criminals.

Above all, they are ever ready to respond to all distress calls they receive at all times unlike the police and army who might not understand the terrain or ready to respond quickly to any emergency call because of one excuse or the other.

He urged Dr. Alex Chioma Otti to engage them fully as part of his Joint Security Team codenamed, Operation Flush and provide them with all necessary requirements for their job such as motorcycles, arms, torches, handsets and ensure they are paid regularly.

He called on all hands to be on deck in the fight against insecurity in the state by volunteering useful information to law enforcement agencies and security men.

He maintained that insecurity affects all and sundry one way or the other adding that they cannot fold their hands and watch the state destroyed by enemies of progress who masquerade themselves as unknown gun men.

He appealed to the governor to come to the rescue of those living at Item Road, Ogwo Road, Ajali Road, Evina, Akoli down to Owerre Aba by grading their roads stressing that the incidence of crime would reduce in the city drastically the moment those areas are given face-lift.

He congratulated Dr. Alex Otti on his impactful one year in office, especially in the area of road construction and rehabilitation saying that he has wiped away tears from the eyes of Abians.

He described him as God-send adding that he has done what others before him could not do in the past 24 years of PDP rule in the state.

He said that the state would witness more developments in his second year in office and prayed God to grant him more wisdom, good health, strength and resources to continue to pilot the affairs of Abia State to greater height.
