Gov. Alex Otti Commissions Obiora Road in Aba
It was a moment of joy as the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR) commissioned the newly-constructed 480 metres Obiora Road in Aba South local government area of Abia State on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
The event attracted the presence of distinguished personalities from far and near including members of the state executive council, notable politicians, captains of industry, traditional rulers, the Assemblies of God Church, school children, traders, residents of the area and people of Aba South.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Don Otumchere Otti expressed profound gratitude to Governor Alex Chioma Otti for approving the construction of the road adding that it has transformed the lives of the people and given the area a tremendous facelift.
He disclosed that the entire work was done by direct labour through the Ministry of Works and appreciated the engineers for the quality of work done adding that the road would make positive impact in the rapid economic growth of Aba South and the state at large.
He noted that the road is delivered with solar streetlights and concrete drainage on both sides and advised the residents of the area and the entire Aba City dwellers to avoid acts capable of damaging the road such as dumping of refuse in the drainage, trading, burning of tyres or repair of automobiles on the road so that it would last longer and serve them better.
In his goodwill message on behalf of the Assemblies of God Church at No. 222, Clifford Road, Aba, Barr. Geoffrey Ike (Nwaticha) extolled Dr. Alex Chioma Otti for his giant strides in the state within a short time in office.
He recalled that Dr. Alex Otti promised to do the Obiora Road when he paid a thank you visit to the church after his victory in the 2023 election.
According to him, when he told them that he was going to do the road in response to their request, they felt that it was business as usual or one of those empty promises made by politicians not knowing that Dr. Alex Chioma Otti is a man of his words.
Before they knew it, the caterpillars moved in and work commenced immediately and within a very short time the road was completed.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done on the road and thanked Governor Alex Chioma Otti immensely for doing them proud.
He prayed God to grant him long life, good health and more wisdom as he pilots the affairs of the state to greater height.
The member representing the indomitable people of Aba Central State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu said that he knew a lot about the long-dilapidated history of Obiora Road and expressed delight that Governor Alex Chioma Otti has done them proud by fixing it.
He described the gesture as a welcome development and Governor Alex Chioma Otti’s determination to work for the people of Abia State.
He said that the road, which is in his Constituency is very important to the entire Aba populace.
Hon. Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu noted that posterity can never forget Governor Alex Chioma Otti for all his good works and for being the only Governor of Abia State since its creation in 1991 to construct the road and assured him of their total support.
He described Governor Alex Chioma Otti as a man of his words adding that his government is “A Government of Saying, Saying and Doing, Doing”.
He prayed God to continue to guide him and enable him to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.
On his part, the Executive Mayor of Aba South local government area, Hon. Obialor Dennis Anyanwu commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti for his giant strides in the state and unprecedented gesture to the people of Aba South and Aba North.
He enumerated Governor Alex Otti’s road projects in Aba including completed and on-going such as Port Harcourt Road, Eziukwu Road, Omuma Road (his place), Obohia Road, Ohanku Road among others and thanked him for all his good works in Aba saying that it did not come to them as a surprise.
According to the young, amiable, popular, ebullient, indefatigable and eloquent Executive Mayor of Aba South, Aba constitutes three-quarter of Abia State in terms of acronym and population adding that if you remove ‘i’ from ‘Abia’ it becomes Aba.
He appreciated Governor Alex Otti for constructing the dilapidated Obiora Road and expressed optimism that the road would enhance commercial activities in the area and help in checkmating the activities of hoodlums as security agents can now patrol round the area freely from time to time.
He assured him of their total support and pledged to replicate his giant strides in Aba South local government area.
In his speech, titled ‘Strategic Repositioning’ Governor Alex Chioma Otti appreciated the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Don Otumchere Otti and the technical team of the Ministry of Works for a job well done.
He said that the event is an opportunity to celebrate the ‘Can Do Spirit of Abia People ‘ and to appreciate his administration for the giant leap it has made on several development thrusts in the past eighteen months.
He said that his administration is committed to nothing else but the welfare of all Abians and promised to continue to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to positioning Aba as the industrial and commercial hub of Abia State and the nation adding that his administration’s investments in infrastructure and security is aimed at restoring the legendary Enyimba City to its former glory and fostering development across all the local government areas in the state.
According to him, he strongly believes that if they get it right in Aba, they can export the gains to other parts of the state by deploying the revenue generated from Aba to supercharge the development of the connecting towns and communities, which ultimately would be every community in the state.
He enumerated some remarkable achievements of his administration in the past eighteen months including construction, reconstruction and maintenance of roads across urban and rural areas, rehabilitation and retrofitting of health institutions, prompt payment of salaries and pensions as well as several financial support to so many medium, small and micro scale enterprises.
He noted that the quality of the road is as good as what Julius Berger is doing at Port Harcourt Road, Aba and urged the people to maintain the infrastructure and reciprocate the gesture by paying all government approved taxes and levies for the government to continue to demonstrate resolute leadership in all sectors of the state.

In his remarks, the Leader of Aba South Legislative Council, Prince Paul Nwandu appreciated Governor Alex Chioma Otti for his massive road construction and rehabilitation projects in Aba adding that they have not had it so good like this since the creation of Abia State.
The elated Leader of Aba South Legislative Council says that he calls him ‘Ogbuhere Uzo 1’ of Abia State because of his unprecedented road revolution in different parts of the state and assured him of their total support.
Speaking, the chairman, Abia South Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Emmanuel Isaac Ugwuzor eulogized Governor Alex Chioma Otti for all his good works in different parts of the state, especially his numerous road construction and rehabilitation projects in Aba and Umuahia.
He thanked him for the construction of Obiora Road, which had long been neglected by past administrations in the state including the on-going construction of Port Harcourt Road and appealed to him to remember Uratta Road after the completion of Port Harcourt Road, Aba adding that they have suffered so much over the years because of the deplorable condition of the road.
He urged the entire Aba residents to sustain their total support for his administration adding that he has surpassed their expectations.
Contributing, the chairman of Ekeoha International Shopping Complex, Aba, Comrade Emeka Okeke expressed satisfaction with the commissioning of Obiora Road, Aba by Governor Alex Chioma Otti (OFR) adding that he has truly restored Aba to its former glory.
He reeled out a catalogue of the road projects Governor Alex Chioma Otti has embarked on in Aba both completed and on-going since his assumption of office last year such as Ehi Road, Kent Street, Old Court Street, Eziukwu Road, Port Harcourt Road, Omuma Road among others adding that his continued flagging-off and commissioning of roads in Aba is a testament to his profound love for the people and unwavering commitment to positioning Aba as the SME capital of the nation.
The humble, quiet, peaceful, hardworking and God-fearing chairman of Ekeoha International Shopping Complex, Aba said that he calls Dr. Alex Chioma Otti a Magic-performing Governor because he keeps wondering where he gets the money to execute all the capital projects in the state knowing full well that the resources accruing to the state is nothing to write home about.
He advised the residents of Obiora Road, Aba not to convert the road into mechanic workshop or turn the drainage into refuse dumps and assured Dr. Alex Chioma Otti of the continued support of all the traders in Abia State.
