HRH Eze Chinyere Chetachi Celebrates 20 Years on the Throne .Dedicates Magnificent Royal Palace
The serene Ovom Amairinabuo Autonomous Community, Obingwa local government area of Abia State was agog on Monday, December 22, 2025 as HRH Eze Chinyere Chetachi, marked his 20th Coronation Anniversary of purposeful and people-oriented leadership on the throne with the dedication of a magnificent Royal Palace.
The landmark event, which held at the royal palace arena, drew an impressive array of traditional rulers, top government officials, community leaders, academia, captains of industry, clergy, youths and well-wishers from far and near.
The celebration began with a thanksgiving service, during which prayers were offered for God’s continued guidance, wisdom, sound health and longevity for the revered Royal Father.
Speaking during the Palace Dedication, HRM Eze F. M. Ikpeazu, former Chairman of Obingwa Council of Traditional Rulers, extolled the humility, exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment of the celebrant to the welfare of his people.
He also commended the community for their foresight, resilience and sustained support for their traditional ruler.
Eze Ikpeazu described the Royal Palace as a symbol of unity, cultural heritage and stability, noting that its completion reflected visionary leadership and dedication to communal progress.
Also speaking, the Mayor of Obingwa Local Government Area, Hon. Maxwell Nwadike, praised HRH Eze Chinyere Chetachi for his remarkable rulership and developmental strides, describing the Palace Dedication as a major milestone in the history of Ovom Amairinabuo Autonomous Community.
He noted that the Palace would serve as a rallying point for unity, cultural preservation and conflict resolution, while assuring the people of the local government’s continued partnership in advancing grassroots development.
In his welcome address, HRH Eze Chinyere Chetachi expressed profound gratitude to God for keeping him and his people alive to witness the double milestone in peace and good health.
He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the promotion of peace, cultural values, adequate security and sustainable development, while calling on sons and daughters of the community, both at home and in the Diaspora, to remain united and committed to collective progress.
The Royal Father also appreciated the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR), for his developmental strides across the state and for restoring dignity to the traditional institution.
He further thanked the people of his kingdom for their steadfast support throughout his 20 years on the throne, noting that the celebration symbolised their collective strength, resilience and shared commitment to the progress of the community and Abia State at large.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of Chieftaincy Titles on deserving personalities in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the growth, unity and advancement of the community and society.
Among those honoured were Hon. Chief Abubakar Kingsley Chimenka Orji, who was conferred with the title “Oduzi Oha I” of Ovom Amairinabuo Autonomous Community, and Chief Christian Dimkpa, who received the title “Ikeakachi I” of Ovom Amairinabuo.
Speaking after receiving his title, Hon. Chief Abubakar Kingsley Chimenka Orji expressed deep gratitude to God for witnessing the historic occasion, describing the honour as both humbling and inspiring.
He appreciated the support of his beautiful wife, Christy Abubakar, whom he described as a pillar of strength.
Chief Orji recounted the struggles that led to the emergence of Ovom Amairinabuo as an autonomous community following its separation from the Akumaimo Ancient Kingdom.
He recalled that after the demise of the community’s first traditional ruler, who was his senior brother, their family unanimously supported HRH Eze Chinyere Chetachi, the Eze Di Oha Nma II of Ovom Amairinabuo, to ascend the throne, as none of the deceased’s family members was willing to succeed him.
He noted that he has remained actively involved in community affairs, offering guidance and leadership across various sectors, stressing that many of the developmental strides recorded were achieved through collective efforts.
He added that the chieftaincy honour had placed him in a stronger position to attract more development and deliver greater dividends to the people.
Chief Orji further revealed that Nigeria’s late Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, was a close associate of his father, explaining that he was named after the late nationalist in recognition of their enduring friendship.
In his remarks, Chief Christian Dimkpa, the Ikeakachi I of Ovom Amairinabuo Autonomous Community, described the occasion as a moment of thanksgiving to God for life, unity and progress, expressing optimism that the community would continue to experience positive transformation, particularly in the area of adequate security.
The colourful and well-attended ceremony ended with a lavish reception, music and captivating cultural dances.
