New Democratic Alliance Inaugurates Executives in Obingwa                              *Harps on Unity, Justice, Credible Leadership

The New Democratic Alliance (NDA), a non-political organization, on Friday, January 16, 2026, inaugurated its executives in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, with speakers across party lines calling for unity, justice, credible leadership and renewed political consciousness ahead of future elections.

The well-attended ceremony took place at Umuokatawom Community Primary School, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, and attracted a broad spectrum of political office holders, former and serving government officials, community leaders, professionals, youth groups and members of the Alliance from across Obingwa, Ugwunagbo and Ukwa East LGAs.

The event commenced with an opening prayer, after which the Chairman on the occasion, Engr. Stanley Egege, described the New Democratic Alliance as a welcome development for the collective good of Obingwa LGA.

The handsome, amiable and indefatigable Governing Council Chairman of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, commended the NDA leadership for its laudable vision.

He emphasized that unity remains the strongest asset of the people and urged members to close ranks and expand the Alliance across Abia State, assuring them of his unwavering support.

In his welcome speech, the Chairman of the Inauguration Committee, Chief Boniface Alozie Uche, popularly known as Bontus, expressed gratitude to the large crowd and notable personalities who travelled from far and near to grace the occasion.

He described the event as a new beginning, thanked God for bringing the people together and declared the day a moment of reflection and correction for Obingwa.

According to him, the platform was born out of dissatisfaction with the outcome of the 2023 general election, particularly the low voter turnout from Obingwa, despite its historic strength in voter registration.

He stated that the NDA was formed to enable the people to “bank on character and capacity rather than party affiliation,” stressing that the Alliance would support credible candidates irrespective of political party in order to restore the glory of Obingwa LGA in Abia politics.

Thereafter, the event featured a march-past by the eleven wards in Obingwa LGA—Abayi Ward 1, Abayi Ward 2, Mgboko Umuanunu Ward 3, Mgboko Itu Ngwa Ward 4, Ahiaba Ward 5, Mgboko Amairi Ward 6, Alaukwu Ohanze Ward 7, Akuma Imo Ward 8, Mgboko Amairinabuo Ward 9, Ntighauzor Amairi Ward 10 and Ibeme Ward 11—as well as delegations from Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East and the Nigerian Association of the Blind.

In his keynote address, the Leader of the New Democratic Alliance, Rt. Hon. Eziuche Ubani, former member who represented Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, commended the Inauguration Committee for what he described as a job well done.

He noted that the emergence of the NDA, which he said is a significant milestone in the annals of Obingwa Local Government Area, was born out of the collective desire of well-meaning sons and daughters of Obingwa to provide a credible platform that would articulate the interests of the people and promote inclusive development.

He said that the New Democratic Alliance is strictly non-political and committed to restoring the lost glory of Obingwa in the affairs of Abia State through unity, advocacy and constructive engagement.

He expressed gratitude to the guests and members for turning out in large numbers to witness the historic occasion and urged members to remain focused, disciplined and committed to the ideals of the Alliance.

He attributed Obingwa’s poor showing in the 2023 elections to voter apathy and low turnout, despite the local government’s consistent record of over 100,000 registered voters.

Rt. Hon. Eziuche Ubani said the NDA decided to act early by mobilizing and sensitizing the people ahead of the 2027 elections to avoid a repeat of past experiences.

He expressed delight at the growing membership of the Alliance across the state, describing it as unique and inclusive.

He reiterated that the NDA does not belong to any individual or political party, noting that it is a collective platform committed to protecting the interests of Obingwa LGA.

He said that if resource allocation were based on votes recorded in the 2023 election, Obingwa LGA would have received next to nothing, stressing the urgency of political reawakening.

At the end of his address, the formal inauguration of the executives of the NDA was performed by Hon. Prince Barr. Obinna Nwabiarije Enogwe.

He congratulated the newly sworn-in leaders on their emergence and charged them to live up to expectations by discharging their duties with integrity, dedication and a deep sense of responsibility to the people of Obingwa.

He further advised the organization to remain true to its non-political stance while pursuing its objectives for the common good of Obingwa people.

The event also featured goodwill messages from prominent personalities present, including the Executive Chairman/Mayor of Obingwa Local Government Area, Hon. Maxwell Nwadike.

Delivering a goodwill message, Hon. Mrs. Stella Igbokwe from Ukwa East described the NDA as a platform for “Justice and Good Governance.”

She commended Rt. Hon. Eziuche Ubani for his vision, as well as for surrounding himself with notable personalities like Hon. Chief Seth Nkwachi Agomuo.

She assured the gathering that the NDA had been well received in Ukwa East LGA and pledged to mobilize more supporters, while urging the leadership not to relent in its mission.

High Chief Omenihu Victor Ubali congratulated Rt. Hon. Eziuche Ubani for bringing the people together.

He expressed optimism that the Alliance would contribute positively to unity and progress within the local government and pledged his total support and full membership of the Alliance.

Hon. Ngozi Joseph, who led a delegation from Ugwunagbo LGA alongside Hon. Valentine Ugoala Ukoma, Coordinator of NDA, Ugwunagbo LGA, said he embraced the Alliance after attending its meetings and subsequently introduced it to his people, where it was overwhelmingly accepted.

Former Managing Director of the Abia State Housing and Property Development Corporation, Arc. Alozie Nwankwo, described the NDA as a disciplined and focused group, commending Rt. Hon. Eziuche Ubani for his uncommon punctuality and remarkable leadership style.

He declared that the era of godfatherism in the politics of Obingwa, nay, Abia State, was over and stressed the need for justice, good governance and credible leadership ahead of 2027.

He described members of the NDA as foot soldiers capable of ensuring that the right candidates emerge in future elections and urged them to spread its message across Obingwa and beyond.

Former Executive Chairman of Obingwa LGA, Hon. Chief Sunday Hanson Amaechi, praised the NDA slogan, Justice, describing justice as central to good governance.

He urged members to remain united and continue to do the right things for the development of Obingwa and Abia State.

Hon. Chief Eric Achi Egwuibe, former Mayor of Obingwa LGA and Special Adviser to the Governor of Abia State on Budget and Planning, declared his full support and membership of the Alliance.

He said he identified with the NDA because of the calibre of people involved, such as Rt. Hon. Eziuche Ubani, Hon. Chief Seth Nkwachi Agomuo and others too numerous to mention.

He noted that the state governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, was aware of the NDA’s activities and stressed the need for unity, peace and fairness in the run-up to the 2027 elections.

Hon. Prince Barr. Obinna Nwabiarije, former Chairman of Obingwa LGA, urged the leadership to add Good Governance to its motto, Justice, stressing that good governance guarantees overall development.

Rt. Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, member representing Obingwa East State Constituency, commended the organizers and urged members to remain patient and committed to sustaining the Alliance.

The Executive Chairman/Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Hon. Maxwell Nwadike, described Obingwa as a unique political family that prioritizes collective interest above party affiliation.

He thanked Rt. Hon. Eziuche Ubani and the organizers for creating a platform beyond partisan politics, stressing that Obingwa had historically been favoured politically and must now redefine its journey through unity and increased voter participation ahead of 2027.

Earlier, the Secretary of the NDA, Kingsley Nnaji (Kimbo), reiterated that the Alliance is a non-political organization aimed at restoring the dignity of Obingwa LGA and ensuring justice across the state. He urged more people to join the movement.

Also speaking, Hon. Chika Christian Nwokonko, Youth Leader of the New Democratic Alliance and Secretary of the Inauguration Committee, said the agenda of the Alliance was clear and people-oriented.

He emphasized that the NDA is not against any political party, noting that its membership cuts across the PDP, APC, APGA, YPP, Labour Party (LP) and ZLP.

He described Obingwa as a leading political force in Abia State and expressed hope that, with God’s help, the Alliance would achieve its objective of restoring the dignity of Obingwa LGA.

The colourful event was anchored by renowned Abia compere, Bestman Eruba Esq. (a.k.a. Ogele Obingwa).

The event climaxed with a vote of thanks and closing prayer by Hon. Chief Seth Nkwachi Agomuo.

He lauded Rt. Hon. Eziuche Ubani for his vision and prayed for divine guidance and the fulfilment of the organization’s aspirations.

The inauguration ceremony ended on a celebratory note, with guests and members treated to food and drinks, as cultural music and dance added colour and excitement to the occasion.
