Nkpa Need Support Box Empowers 102 Indigent Persons in Nkpa
A total of 102 indigent persons in Nkpa, Bende local government area of Abia State comprising petty traders and artisans received a big boost to their respective businesses during the First Annual Nkpa Economic Summit convened by Comrade Darlington Onyebuchi Aguoha under the aegis of Nkpa Need Support Box.
The Summit with the theme, “How to Promote Economic Development, Infrastructural Growth and Security in Ala Nkpa” held at Etiti Nkpa Civic Hall on Monday, August 26, 2024 under the distinguished chairmanship of Comrade Emmanuel Okechukwu Ugboaja (mni), the General Secretary of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
In his opening remarks, the chairman on the occasion, Comrade Emmanuel Okechukwu Ugboaja extolled the convener, Comrade Darlington Onyebuchi Aguoha for the laudable initiative aimed at providing succour to indigent Nkpa indigenes.
He urged the people to eschew acrimony, back-biting and pull-him-down syndrome and think of ways to launch Nkpa into reckoning within and outside the nation.
He called on other well-to-do sons and daughters of Nkpa to join hands with Comrade Darlington Onyebuchi Aguoha to alleviate the plight of the poor in Nkpa by giving them a new lease of life.
In his speech, the Convener, Comrade Darlington Onyebuchi Aguoha said that the vision of Nkpa Need Support Box is to alleviate poverty to the barest minimum in Nkpa by assisting petty traders and artisans with cash, equipment and other relevant materials to enhance their businesses.
Comrade Darlington Onyebuchi Aguoha disclosed that he has been involved in various initiatives which have enhanced the lot of the less-privileged across the nation over the years and assured that the maiden Nkpa Economic Summit would transform the lives of the poor in Nkpa.
He promised to make it an annual event as well as to increase the money given to the beneficiaries adding that plans are underway to extend the gesture to about 55 male artisans of Nkpa before the end of this year.
He advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the money given to them to grow their businesses adding that more people would benefit from the programme next year.
The Summit featured lectures on different topics ranging from infrastructure, finance, business and economy, security, good moral standard among others handled by seasoned resource persons and notable personalities including former Minority Leader, Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Chibuzor Solomon Okogbuo and ASP Stanley Chinwe Imo.
The Guest Speaker, Chief Ezenwa Nwagwu though unavoidably absent spoke via telephone.
He congratulated the beneficiaries and charged them to invest the money given to them wisely to transform their businesses.
On his part, Hon. Barr. Chibuzor Solomon Okogbuo, former Minority Leader, Abia State House of Assembly and the Director General of Abia Rejoice commended Comrade Darlington Onyebuchi Aguoha for his uncommon gesture.
He donated a whopping sum of money in support of the laudable initiative and promised to sustain it.
He called on other illustrious sons and daughters of Nkpa to donate generously in support of the initiative aimed at alleviating poverty in Nkpa.
He advised the beneficiaries to use the money given to them judiciously to transform their businesses adding that if they do well that more support would be given to them.
Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of cash to the beneficiaries by the Special Guest, Barr. Chijoke Nwankwo, the Mayor of Bende local government area.
Speaking, Barr. Chijioke Nwankwo appreciated Comrade Darlington Onyebuchi Aguoha for the landmark venture for the benefit of the people of Nkpa and the entire Bende local government area.
He promised to do everything possible to encourage him to replicate it across all the communities in Bende local government area and called on all the illustrious sons and daughters of Nkpa and the entire Bende LGA to key into the programme stressing that the measure of a man’s worth is not actually the amount of what he has but the impact he makes with it in the lives of others and the society at large.
He appealed to them to consider doing a little for those around them by giving back to the community in various ways they can out of the much God has given them stressing that it would go a long way in alleviating poverty in the area.
He urged the beneficiaries not to see the amount given to them as small adding that if they put their heart to it and work very hard that it would continue to increase by leaps and bounds by the grace of God.
At the end of his speech, the Mayor handed over envelopes containing the sum of N25, 000. 00 to some of the beneficiaries before departing for other engagements.
Speaking, the host traditional ruler, HRH Eze Azuamairo Onyerisara of Etiti Nkpa autonomous community lauded Comrade Darlington Onyebuchi Aguoha for his unprecedented life-changing initiative.
He told the beneficiaries that the money given to them is not for the payment of their children’s school fees or pleasure and charged them to invest it in their businesses to yield profit and attract more financial assistance to them.
The programme was a huge success and attracted the presence of notable personalities from far including Dr. Henry Obioma Amos Ojiegbe, Pastor Idika Chinecherem Dike, Comrade Ogechi Obioma Adibe, PhD, Comrade Onyekachi Ebere, Monday Iheanacho Aguoha, Uche Aguoha, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugboaja, among others.
At the end, Comrade Darlington Onyebuchi Aguoha appreciated all and sundry for gracing the epoch-making occasion as well as the beneficiaries.
A total of 55 persons – five from each of the eleven villages in Nkpa smiled home with the sum of N25, 000.00 while 47 others received the sum of N10, 000.00 each.
