The United Ngwa Daughters Association Holds 2024 End of Year Meeting with Thanksgiving

The United Ngwa Daughters Association (TUNDA) with the slogan, “Afonne! Kire. Afonne! Kire. Afonne Kire, Kanu Nka oo. United we Stand, divided we Fall” celebrated its 2024 End of the Year Meeting with thanksgiving, pomp and ceremony.

The colourful event held inside its Hall within the premises of All Ngwa Cultural Organization (ANCO) at No. I, Industry Road (Behind Old Post Office), Aba on Sunday, November 17, 2024 under the distinguished chairmanship of Chief Obinna Nwachukwu, the immediate past PDP Vice Chairman, Abia State while Bestman Eruba Esq compered it with elan to the admiration of all those present.

In his remarks after the opening prayer and presentation of kola nut, the Chairman on the occasion, Chief Obinna Nwachukwu commended members of The United Ngwa Daughters Association for their unwavering commitment to the actualization of their lofty dreams for Ngwa land.

The indefatigable political Colossus described women as home builders and urged them to spend more time in bringing up their children well.

He noted that the number of school dropouts in the area is becoming so alarming and called on the Association to institute an Education Endowment Trust Fund as soon as possible for school children from indigent homes to enable them to register for the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) at the end of their secondary education.

He promised to support the initiative as well as to mobilize his friends and others to throw their weight behind it anytime they are ready adding that he has paid WAEC fees for so many students over the years.

In her address, the President of The United Ngwa Daughters Association (TUNDA), Mrs. Uchechi Nelly Ahunanya expressed profound gratitude to God for keeping them alive throughout the year as well as making it possible to hold the ceremony despite the prevailing economic hardship across the nation.

She appreciated all and sundry for gracing the occasion from far and near. She regretted the death of their member, Chief Mrs. Helen Azuka and craved the indulgence of all those present to stand up for a minute’s silence in honour of her.

Thereafter, she lauded the pioneer President and Founder of The United Ngwa Daughters Association, Chief Mrs. Uwaoma Olewengwa (Ada Ukwu Ndi Ngwa) for her doggedness over the years and assured that the light she lighted so many years ago in Ngwa land would continue to shine brighter and brighter everyday.

She disclosed that the association would use the occasion to honour some of its members and other well deserving sons and daughters of Ngwa land in recognition of their significant contributions to the growth of the association over the years.

She appreciated the All Ngwa Cultural Association (ANCO) ably led by the President General, Elder Dr. Sunny Nwosu, representatives of other affiliate Ngwa unions including the executive and entire members of TUNDA for their love, loyalty and support.

On her part, the Secretary of TUNDA, Afonne Iheanyi Ezeukwu while reading the Association’s Annual Report thanked God for leading them safely throughout the year adding that their meeting usually starts from February and ends in November every year and holds on the third Sunday of every month.

She said that they visit their members who are sick or bereaved to commiserate with them and support them.

She pointed out that they also visit motherless babies homes to present gifts and cash to them as part of their humanitarian services in the society.

She noted that the year has been so good for them and enumerated some of their notable achievements including registration of the association at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Abuja, appointment of a grand patron, patrons, grand matron and matrons, admission of seven new members into the Association namely Mrs. Ngozi Onwubiko (UK), Mrs. Onyinyechi Ohajuru (UK), Mrs. Vine Chizoba Munonye (UK), Mrs. Beloved Uruaku Achilefu (USA), Mrs. Violet Nmema Okorie, Mrs. Blessing Nkasiobi and Mrs. Adaku Ogugua Ngozi.

She appreciated their members in the United Kingdom (UK) for hosting their 2024 End of Year Meeting adding that those in the United States of America (USA) would host that of next year by the grace of God.

She extolled their President, Afonne Uchechi Nelly Ahunanya for the able way she has been piloting the affairs of the Association over the years and thanked the executive and entire members of the Association for their love and support.

There was presentation of news in Igbo (Akuko Ugha bu Eziokwu) by Afonne Happiness Amaechi. That episode occasioned resounding applause and naira rain.

Thereafter, the Association’s Cultural Dance Group thrilled the guests with spectacular displays.

Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of awards to some members and other well deserving sons and daughters of Ngwa land.

The Distinguished Senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe (Nma Agha Ndigbo) was decorated as the Grand Patron of the Association in recognition of his tremendous support over the years.

He was represented by High Chief Chijoke Uko. Speaking after receiving the award on his behalf, High Chief Chijoke Uko appreciated members of TUNDA for the honour done Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and assured them of his continued support and magnanimity.

He extolled them for their remarkable achievements over the years and prayed God to continue to bless them in all their endeavours.

Chief Mrs. Uwaoma Olewengwa, the pioneer President and Founder of the Association was decorated as the Grand Matron of TUNDA in recognition of her pivotal role in the existence of the great Association and tremendous support.

In her response, the erstwhile Abia State Commissioner for Industry, Promotions and Development went down the memory lane when she founded the Association and the height it has attained today and gave God all the glory.

According to her, she is very proud of the height the Association has attained today such as having its own building and registering it at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Abuja to mention but a few.

She said she feels humbled and gives God all the glory whenever people see her and call her the pioneer President and Founder of TUNDA because there is nothing she can do without God.

She emphasized that The United Ngwa Daughters Association is not an ordinary association or an all comers affairs stressing that their members are women of integrity and distinction in all walks of life.

She lauded her successor, Afonne Uchechi Nelly Ahunanya for sustaining the lofty ideals of the Association over the years as well as piloting the affairs of the association to greater height.

She expressed great satisfaction that the Association has established its presence in different parts of the world including the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

She recalled that the Association was instrumental in the emergence of the first Abia Governor of Ngwa extraction in 2015-2023 adding that she is fulfilled and happy that the association has continued to grow by leaps and bounds over the years. 

HRH Opara Ikenna James (Opara Ukwu Oha Ngwa 1 of Manchester, United Kingdom) ably represented by Engr. Uwaoma Kelvin was decorated as a patron of TUNDA in recognition of his immense contributions in upholding the core values of Ngwa land as well as helping the Association to attain enviable height in a foreign land.

In his response, Engr. Uwaoma Kelvin thanked members of TUNDA for the great honour done his brother.

He appreciated them adding that the award would inspire him to sustain those qualities that made them to honour him and assured them that he would do more for them.

Nneoma Lady Florita Ngozi Anwuacha, the President of Aba Diocesan Catholic Women Organization (ADCWO) was accompanied by her second daughter, Ambassador Eziada Kelechi Anwuacha Chukwudi, the core ADCWO executive and Ngwa Women Workers Association of Nigeria to receive the award of Matron of The United Ngwa Daughters Association in recognition of her enviable height in the society and immense contributions to the emancipation of Ngwa Daughters and Ngwa land as a whole.

In her response, Nneoma Lady Florita Ngozi Anwuacha appreciated the Association for the honour done her adding that the award would spur her to do more for God and humanity.

Contributing, her beautiful daughter, Ambassador Eziada Kelechi Anwuacha Chukwudi showered encomiums on her mother describing her as an epitome of beauty, a woman of integrity, a rare gem and her role model.

She appreciated the Association for the honour done her and advised them to tap from her vast knowledge, experience, integrity and wisdom. She supported her generously as well as others that joined her to receive the award.

Afonne Jane Nwanne Nwachukwu was decorated as a matron of the Association for her unquantifiable contributions to the growth of the Association.

Responding, the elated, lovely and kind-hearted woman expressed profound gratitude to God for the honour done her and promised that it would spur her to do more for the Association.

She was accompanied by her step son Chidi, who came all the way from Port Harcourt, her grand daughter and others.

In their short speeches, the President General of All Ngwa Cultural Organization (ANCO), Elder Dr. Sunny Nwosu ably represented by the Secretary General, High Chief Sir Dr. Maraizu Ogumka congratulated The United Ngwa Daughters Association on their successful End of Year Meeting as well as the awardees in recognition of their contributions to the advancement of the Association, Ngwa land and the society at large, especially Nneoma Lady Florita Ngozi Anwuacha who he described as a role model and legendary pacesetter.

He urged the awardees to cherish the awards presented to them and continue to remain good ambassadors of the Association and Ngwa land.

High Chief Maraizu Ogumka appreciated members of the Association on behalf of ANCO and also made a personal donation to encourage them.

In his remarks, Deacon Chidi Samuel (Chitex) commended The United Ngwa Daughters Association for their tenacity and remarkable achievements in Ngwa land, Abia State and beyond over the years. He urged them to remain united and keep the flag flying.

On his part, the President of Oha Ukwa Ngwa Congress, Elder Samuel Eze Uhuegbu said that the Association has done them proud. He gave them kudos for their landmark achievements in Ngwa land and beyond and prayed God to bless them in all ramifications.

The husband of the President of TUNDA, John Mary Ahunanya appreciated his wife and the Association for all their good works in Ngwa land and prayed God to bless them more abundantly.

In the end, the President of TUNDA, Afonne Uchechi Nelly Ahunanya appreciated all for coming and wished them safe journey back to their various destinations.

She thanked the executive and entire members of the Association for their love, support and selfless sacrifice and prayed God to bless them.

The occasion was well attended and climaxed with eating, drinking and dancing.
