Umunna Nsulu Eze-in-Council Presents Lucky Onumaegbu As Eze-elect

The Eze-in-Council of Umunna Nsulu autonomous community in Isiala Ngwa North local area of Abia State comprising Mbubo, Ubaha and Umuosu has unanimously presented Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu as their Eze-elect.

The historic event held at the popular Obo-Ogu Hall and Event Centre, Mbubo on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 amid great jubilation.

The expansive hall known as ‘House of Peace’ was filled to capacity with a galaxy of notable personalities, representatives from Isiala Ngwa North local government area, chiefs, village heads, men, women, youths, cultural dance groups among others.

The massive turnout of people from the three villages and resounding applause show that the people are happy with his emergence as their Eze-elect.

The event, which commenced with an opening prayer followed by the presentation of kola nut was ably coordinated by Hon. Chief I. C. Nwankwere, the Ugwumba 1 of Umunna Nsulu.

In his opening remarks, the Palace Secretary of Udo Ala Palace Council, Umunna Nsulu, Chief Charles Ogbonna (Zere Isi Gi 1 of Umunna Nsulu) thanked the people for turning out in their numbers for the presentation of Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu as their Eze-elect stressing that their huge presence is a testament to their unalloyed acceptance.

He thanked the Selection Committee for a job well done and abiding by their Constitution, which stipulates that succession to the throne among the three villages of Umunna Nsulu Autonomous Community would be based on rotation for a single term only.

He lauded the emergence of Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu as well deserved and a reward for hard work.

He said that he is sound and eminently qualified to be their new traditional ruler and expressed optimism that he would transform the community to greater height.

He described him as a consummate philanthropist and a man of the people who has done a lot for the betterment of the people and development of Umunna Nsulu Autonomous Community over the years.

He enumerated some of his remarkable achievements in the area including the building and furnishing of Udo Ala Palace single-handedly, donation of a Mercedes Benz car to their late traditional ruler, donation of 100 plastic chairs to every church in the area, provision of transformers to the community among others.

He declared without fear or favour that there is no going back on the emergence of Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu as their Eze-elect and called on the people to sustain their support for him to ensure his subsequent approval and presentation of Staff of Office to him by the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR).

In his speech, Chief Chijioke Ozems, the Palace Protocol Officer of Umunna Nsulu Autonomous Community said that the emergence of Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu as their Eze-elect was done in the spirit of equity, justice and fair-play stressing that what is good for the goose is good for the gander (Mmanu Akara Di Uto, Onye ra tu Ibe ya ara tu) stressing that since Umuosu has produced two traditional rulers of the community, equity demands that any of the other two villages be given the chance to produce the traditional ruler of Umunna Nsulu this time.

To this end, the people of Ubaha unanimously agreed that Mbubo should produce the third traditional ruler of Umunna Nsulu after which they would take the next turn.

Chief Ozems congratulated him on his selection as the Eze-elect of Umunna Nsulu and expressed confidence that he would change the narrative in the community considering his remarkable achievements in the community over the years.

Thereafter, Deacon Okey Marc Azubuike, the Secretary General, Mbubo Development Association read the the citation of the Eze-elect before his presentation to the people.

He read Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu’s impressive biography eloquently focusing on his education, career, and remarkable contributions to the development of Mbubo and Umunna Nsulu at large.

According to him, Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu was born on April 16, 1952 to the family of late Mr. and Mrs. Mark Onumaegbu.

He attended Mbubo Community Primary School and Pennywise Commercial School, Nbawsi.

Thereafter, he went to Jos, Plateau State and after spending sometime there, he relocated to Lagos where he enrolled at the Institute of Transport Administration, UK.

After obtaining his first degree in Transport Administration, he registered for a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) and Masters degree in Transport Administration at Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, Osun State.

His insatiable appetite for learning took him to Crown Field School of Management, United Kingdom.

His towering career in Transportation, Shipping and Logistics began at Panalpina World Transport (Nig.) Ltd in 1976 where he worked assiduously and rose to the position of a senior management staff before his retirement in 2003.

After his retirement, he established two companies namely: Mark and Phina Ventures Ltd and Leostar Shipping and Logistics Co. Ltd.

The name of the first company was coined from the names of his parents while the second one was formed from his initials – Lucky Eze Onumaegbu (LEO).

Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumegbu was a two-time Deputy President of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria and its acting President in the mid 90s.

He belonged to several reputable organizations and prestigious clubs including the legendary Island Club of Lagos.

Eze Lucky Onumaegbu is a quintessential philanthropist and inimitable pacesetter. His philanthropy knows no bounds.

During his heyday at Panalpina, he contributed immensely to the development of Umunna Nsulu and provided employment opportunities for so many youths in the area including Chief Eric Opah who is today one of the leading lights in Ngwa land.

He donated two transformers to ensure adequate supply of electricity in Mbubo. He gave all the churches in Mbubo light and donated 100 plastic chairs to each of them.

He also built and furnished the Udo Ala Palace in Umuosu Nsulu single-handedly and donated a Mercedes Benz to the late traditional ruler among others.

He was conferred with the prestigious ‘Akuruo Ulo 1’ of Umunna Nsulu Chieftaincy Title in 1997 as well as Super High Chief in 2003 in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the development of Umunna Nsulu.

At the end of his robust citation, he was duly presented to the people by the village head of Ubaha Nsulu, the Deputy Leader, Isiala Ngwa North Legislative Council, Hon. Victor Onweremadu Nwabuisi, the Palace Secretary, Chief Charles Ogbonna (Zere Isi Gi 1 of Umunna Nsulu), Royal Super High Chief Okey Ogbonna, Hon. Chief Chijioke Ozems (Uri Chindere) and others to the administration of all and sundry.

Speaking, Hon. Victor Onweremadu Nwabuisi, an illustrious son of Mbubo and Deputy Leader, Isiala Ngwa North Legislative Council congratulated Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu on his unanimous adoption as their Eze-elect and assured him of their total support to ensure his approval and presentation of Staff of Office by the state government.

Highlights of the event was the presentation of traditional items of inestimable value and reverence such as hand fan and cow-tail to the Eze-elect.

In his response, Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu thanked the people of Umunna Nsulu for their love and overwhelming support.

He described his emergence as the overall will of the people and promised to carry everybody along and pursue vigorously the transformation of the community.

He extolled the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR) for his quality leadership and monumental achievements in the state within a short time in office and pledged their total support to his administration.

Speaking, the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa North local government area of Abia State, Ambassador Innocent Chiedozie Uruakpa ably represented by his Chief of Staff, Deacon Chimaobi Nwosu commended the people of Umunna Nsulu for their massive support.

He congratulated the Eze-elect, Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu on his colourful presentation to the community and enjoined him to carry everybody along for the overall peace and development of the community stressing that no meaningful development can be achieved in an atmosphere of violence, rancour and pull him down syndrome.

He assured them of their readiness to receiving them at the Isiala Ngwa North local government headquarters, Okpuala Ngwa any day they decide to come for his presentation as well as to recommend him for approval to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The event attracted the presence of so many dignitaries including Chief Eric Opah, the Secretary of Isiala Ngwa local government area, Mrs. Nkechi Chibueze,
Chief Mrs. Josephine Anyanwu, Elder Vincent Olugele, Hon. Guinea Onumaegbu, Chief Okey Ogbonna (Arupuo Aku 1) of Umunna Nsulu, Chigozie Ezekiel, Gideon Solomon, the Managing Director/CEO, Products Interface International Nig. Ltd, Emeka Nwaogwugwu (ARXLift Construction Company, Abuja), Chief Ikechukwu Onwunyiriuwa (Izuakolam 1), Chief Chinedu Onwumere, Chief Christopher Onwukaikpe (Ome Udo 1), Elder Nna Paul, Elder Chidiebere Adighike, Hon. Mbuko Okechukwu, Boniface Paul, Monday Nwakanma, the Deputy Chairman, Ubaha Village Council among others.

At the end, all roads led to the country home of the Eze-elect, Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu for a memorable reception.

Super High Chief Eze Lucky Onumaegbu is happily married to Lolo Joyce Eze Onumaegbu and their marriage is blessed with five children (three boys and two girls).
