SBMT Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Aba Holds Maiden Research Exhibition for its Students

The School of Business and Management Technology (SBMT), Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba (formerly Abia State Polytechnic) marked another milestone with its Maiden Research Exhibition for SBMT Students 2025, held on Thursday, August 14, at the institution’s auditorium under the distinguished chairmanship of Dr. C. C. Ehiodo.

Dr. C. C. Ehiodo, appreciated the Dean of SBMT, Dr. Chinweoke Nwaeze, for organizing the event.

He noted that the research exhibition would broaden the students’ knowledge and urged them to take it seriously.

The event showcased student research projects from the various departments of SBMT such as Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Business Administration and Management (BAM), Marketing, Public Administration, and Office Technology and Management (OTM).

Each department fielded four student presenters, who delivered 12-minute research presentations.

A panel of judges, including Dr. Kingsley Onyekachi Onyele of Rhema University, Okoroafor Michael Onyedikachi (a research consultant and data analyst), and Dr. Oko Azu Kalu, provided feedback and corrections to improve the students’ academic delivery.

In his address, Dean of SBMT, Dr. Chinweoke Nwaeze, expressed gratitude to God for the successful event, describing it as a “landmark success” and the first of its kind in the institution and beyond achieving its goal of broadening students’ knowledge in research.

He applauded the students’ impressive performances and the lecturers for grooming them in the art of modern paper presentation.

Dr. Nwaeze also praised the Rector, Engr. Dr. Christopher Kalu Okoro, for his unwavering support and transformative leadership, as well as the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR), for his continued support for the institution and education in the state.

He extended special thanks to his colleagues, staff, supporters, and his family for their encouragement.

The event also featured the unveiling of the SBMT logo, a fashion/model display by the students, presentations by representatives from WEMA Bank and Sterling Bank, Aba including presentation of certificates to
sponsors, judges, student presenters and the various departments of SBMT.

Notably, Hon. Emmanuel Chimaobi Odimegwu (Blessed Sunny Peak), a proud alumnus of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba and two-time chairman of Eziukwu Road Market, was honored with a certificate of sponsorship. He pledged continued support to SBMT and the polytechnic.

Dr. Maurice Kalu Chukwu, LOC Chairman and lecturer in the Department of Business Administration and Management (BAM), praised the Dean’s exceptional leadership, describing the research exhibition as a transformative and empowering academic initiative.

He prayed for God’s guidance to secure sponsors for the continuation of such events.

The maiden research exhibition marked a significant milestone in the institution’s academic calendar, showcasing the students’ research skills and the school’s commitment to academic excellence.

The event concluded with refreshments and was attended by dignitaries, Heads of Departments, staff and students, including Dr. Clement Ukandu and Dr. Ezebunwa Ubani.
