ASMATA INAUGURATES INEC REGISTRATION MONITORING COMMITTEE TO DRIVE PVC MOBILIZATION, LABOUR PARTY MEMBERSHIP E-REGISTRATION IN ABIA MARKETS 

The Abia State Amalgamated Market Traders Association (ASMATA) has inaugurated members of its INEC Registration Monitoring Committee to drive Permanent Voters Card (PVC) mobilization as well as work towards increasing Labour Party membership e-registration across markets in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The committee was inaugurated on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the ASMATA Head Office, 104B Asa Road, Aba, with a mandate to ensure that all eligible traders in the state obtain their PVCs and more of them register as members of the Labour Party.

The committee is chaired by Elder Dr. Uchechukwu Anyanwu, with Hon. Ejike Urams serving as Vice Chairman and Chukwujama Obinna as Secretary.

Other members include Hon. John Chukwuma Okoronkwo, Hon. Oluchi Zereuwa, Hon. Chief Mrs. Ezinne Ezim Nkechi, Ifeanyi Orji, and Hon. Akwarandu Anyim.

Inaugurating the committee, the President General of ASMATA, Hon. Chief Alphonsus E. Udeigbo, said the members were carefully selected based on their pedigree, wealth of experience, commitment to the progress of traders and the business community, their support for the present administration in the state, and their proven capacity to deliver.

He expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to carry out its assignment successfully and assured them of ASMATA’s total support at all times.

According to him, the committee is expected to liaise with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and facilitate their engagement with the ten markets already identified for the PVC registration and voter enlightenment programme.

He added that the committee would also work towards increasing Labour Party membership e-registration in markets across Abia State.

Hon. Chief Udeigbo further stated that the committee is charged with monitoring markets across the state to ensure effective implementation of the resolution that every trader should possess a valid PVC.

He noted that the committee would also advise the leadership of ASMATA on the best approaches to improving PVC registration and participation among traders, identify other pressing needs within the markets during the course of the exercise, and make recommendations on possible solutions.

In addition, the committee is expected to propose strategies that will strengthen and sustain compliance with PVC registration both now and beyond the 2027 general elections.

The ASMATA President General prayed that God, who has been guiding Abia State since the inception of Governor Alex Chioma Otti’s administration on May 29, 2023, would also guide the committee in the discharge of its duties.

He commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti for his monumental achievements across different parts of the state, noting that even his critics now acknowledge his performance.

Hon. Chief Udeigbo said the governor remains committed to transforming Abia State and called on traders and the entire business community to support his re-election in 2027.

He stressed that the only way to achieve this is for all eligible adults aged 18 and above to obtain their PVCs and register as members of the Labour Party.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Elder Dr. Uchechukwu Anyanwu, thanked the ASMATA President General, the executive, and the entire members of the association for finding them worthy of the appointment.

Dr. Anyanwu, who is the Chief Executive Officer of UNAC Ventures (Nig.) Ltd and former Chairman of the Ngwa Road Market Traders Association (NGWAMATA), assured the ASMATA leadership that the committee would deliver beyond expectations.

He pledged that the committee would carry out its responsibilities with diligence, speed, and accuracy in order to achieve the objectives for which it was constituted.

Dr. Anyanwu, who is also the ASMATA Treasurer, assured the committee’s support for the Honourable Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Dr. Mrs. Salome Obiukwu, promising to do everything possible to ensure that her tenure is smooth, successful, and marked by remarkable achievements.

He emphasized that the committee would begin work immediately, noting that the time remaining before the 2027 elections is short and demands urgent action.

At the end of the ceremony, Hon. Chief Udeigbo congratulated the committee members on their appointment and thanked them for accepting the responsibility.

He stressed that the task ahead is urgent and requires unity of purpose, hard work, and unwavering commitment in order to secure an overwhelming victory for Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 election.
