2027: ABIA SPEAKER INAUGURATES ECHEZONA STREET VANGUARD FOR ALEX OTTI, RALLIES SUPPORT FOR GOVERNOR’S RE-ELECTION
The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, on Saturday, June 20, 2026 inaugurated the Echezona Street Vanguard for Governor Alex Chioma Otti at the pavilion of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, in a ceremony that attracted a large turnout of political stakeholders, government officials, community leaders, youth groups and supporters from different parts of the state.
The event commenced with an opening prayer by former Chairman of Ariaria International Market, Deacon Michael Anioji, while the event was anchored by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Comrade Onyebuchi Chukwu.

Speaking at the event, Comrade Chukwu commended the Founder of Echezona, Fr. Christian Uchenna Anokwuru, for his vision, dedication and unwavering support for Governor Otti’s administration.
He noted that Fr. Anokwuru had consistently demonstrated commitment to the growth of various pro-government support structures, including Abia Arise and Onugu Women, before initiating the Echezona Street Vanguard for Dr. Alex Otti.
According to him, the formation of Echezona was aimed at ensuring that every street across the state had a platform through which residents could identify with and support the Labour Party-led administration.
He explained that the inauguration marked the formal unveiling of street leaders and coordinators in Aba, while preparations were already underway for a similar exercise in Umuahia.
He maintained that members of the group remained committed to sustaining the developmental strides, impactful governance and transformational leadership currently being witnessed across Abia State under Governor Otti.

In his address, the Founder and Leader of Echezona, Fr. Christian Anokwuru, explained that the movement was established to constantly remind Abians of the transformation that had taken place in the state since Governor Otti assumed office in 2023.
He expressed appreciation to government officials, local government mayors, legislators and other dignitaries who attended the event, particularly the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa for honouring their invitation.
Fr. Anokwuru stated that Echezona, which translates to “Do Not Forget,” was designed to ensure that the achievements of the current administration remained fresh in the minds of the people stressing that many residents could easily forget the difficult conditions that existed before the emergence of Governor Otti, including poor roads, flooding, darkness and decaying infrastructure.
He urged members to continue educating residents about the infrastructural renewal taking place across Aba, Umuahia and other parts of the state, emphasizing that the governor’s achievements should not be taken for granted.
The cleric further explained that Echezona was created to accommodate individuals who were not members of existing support groups, thereby broadening grassroots participation in support of the governor.

He expressed satisfaction with the rapid growth of the movement, noting that within a few months of its establishment, the group had already gained significant acceptance across Aba and other communities in the state.
Fr. Anokwuru charged members to take the message of Echezona to every street, market and community in the state, and urged the people to always remember Governor Alex Otti and not forget all the good things he has done for Abia State.

He further stated that there was no better way to appreciate and collaborate with the Governor than by joining the organization and supporting its activities.
He called on members, to ensure that they register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that Governor Alex Otti would not be re-elected in 2027 without their votes.
While expressing confidence that most of those present already possessed their voter cards, he urged anyone who had not yet obtained one to do so without delay, so that on election day they would vote massively for Governor Alex Otti to continue his good works in the state.

Addressing the gathering, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa applauded the leadership and members of Echezona for establishing what he described as a strategic grassroots movement.
The Speaker recalled the deplorable condition of Aba before the advent of the current administration, citing roads such as Port Harcourt Road, Ohanku Road, Obohia Road and Omuma Road as examples of infrastructure that had undergone remarkable transformation.
He observed that many of the roads that were once impassable had now become easily accessible, attributing the development to Governor Otti’s commitment to rebuilding the state.
Emeruwa urged members of the group to continue sensitizing residents on the achievements of the administration and to ensure that the governor’s developmental efforts were not forgotten.
He also encouraged party supporters to remain steadfast, assuring them that dedication and sacrifice in service of the administration would not go unnoticed.
The Speaker further advised leaders of the organization to demonstrate humility, tolerance and exemplary conduct in their dealings with members and the public.
He particularly charged the State Chairman of Echezona, Comrade Michael Chijioke Amaku popularly known as MC Boss, to provide inclusive leadership capable of inspiring confidence among members.
Subsequently, Emeruwa formally inaugurated the executives, coordinators and members of Echezona Street Vanguard for Dr. Alex Otti, declaring the organization duly inaugurated on behalf of Governor Otti.
He charged them to leave no stone unturned to ensure the landslide victory of Governor Alex Otti and other Labour Party candidates in the state come 2027.

In his acceptance speech, the State Chairman of Echezona Street Vanguard for Dr. Alex Otti, Comrade Michael Chijioke Amaku, expressed profound gratitude to the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, for honouring the occasion.
He also appreciated Hon. Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu, the Mayors of Aba North and Aba South Local Government Areas, the Founder and Leader of Echezona, Fr. Anokwuru, and several other distinguished personalities who graced the event.
MC Boss paid special tribute to the Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, Prof. Christopher Kalu Okoro for providing the venue and supporting the initiative, describing him as a man of uncommon humility and magnanimity.
Reflecting on the growth of the movement, MC Boss noted that the Echezona Street Vanguard for Dr. Alex Otti was barely four months old but had already recorded remarkable progress and attracted widespread support across the state.

He observed that if the organization could achieve such milestones within a short period, its future prospects were even more promising.
He pledged the unwavering commitment of members of the organization to the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, whom he described as a transformational leader whose achievements had restored confidence among Aba residents and Abians generally.
According to him, members of the group remained deeply appreciative of the efforts of Governor Otti and other leaders in the state, insisting that they would continue to defend, promote and support the administration because of the visible impact of its policies and programmes on the lives of the people.
The former Chairman of Ariaria International Market further declared that he was prepared to devote his energy, resources and influence towards ensuring the success of the mandate entrusted to the organization.
He maintained that members of the group would continue to mobilize support for the Governor and the Labour Party across the state.
Drawing inspiration from the biblical transformation of Saul to Paul, MC Boss remarked that he has become a firm believer in the vision and leadership of Governor Otti.
He stated that, just as Paul took the gospel to places beyond the reach of the early disciples, he would work tirelessly to spread the message of good governance of Governor Alex Otti’s administration to every corner of Abia State.
He revealed plans to establish Echezona Street Vanguard structures in communities and streets across Aba, Umuahia and other parts of the state, expressing confidence that within a short period the organization’s presence would be felt throughout Abia.
MC Boss further explained that the adoption of the Labour Party logo as part of the group’s identity symbolized its support for Governor Alex Otti and all Labour Party candidates in the 2027 elections.
He assured supporters that the organization would continue to strengthen its grassroots mobilization efforts and expand its reach across the state.
Several dignitaries who delivered goodwill messages commended the initiative and pledged their support.
Former Mayor of Obingwa Local Government Area, Dr. Eric Egwuibe, praised the vision behind the movement and encouraged members to remain committed to grassroots mobilization.

The Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, Prof. Christopher Kalu Okoro, welcomed guests and participants to the institution and acknowledged the presence of the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, alongside other dignitaries.
The Rector also recognized Fr. Anokwuru, describing him as a valued member of the Polytechnic community whose contributions to both the institution and society had remained commendable over the years.
Recalling the visit of the Echezona leadership to his office before the event, Prof. Okoro noted that Governor Alex Otti’s developmental strides across the state had continued to earn him widespread goodwill and admiration among the people.
He observed that the Governor’s achievements in infrastructure renewal, education, governance reforms and economic revitalization had strengthened public confidence in the administration and inspired many citizens to identify with its vision for a new Abia.
Prof. Okoro assured members of the organization of his continued support and encouraged them to remain committed to promoting good governance, civic participation and community development.
He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in sustaining the gains already recorded by the present administration.
The Rector further pledged that the Polytechnic community would continue to collaborate with progressive initiatives aimed at advancing the welfare of Abians and supporting the state’s developmental aspirations.
He reiterated his open-door policy and assured the organization that his office would always be available for constructive engagement, dialogue and partnership.
According to him, educational institutions had a responsibility not only to train future leaders but also to support initiatives that contribute positively to societal development.
Prof. Okoro thanked the organizers for choosing Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, as the venue for the inauguration and expressed optimism that the Echezona Street Vanguard would continue to grow in strength and impact as it pursues its objectives across the state.
He lauded Governor Otti’s performance describing his administration’s achievements within three years in office as unprecedented in the annals of the state adding that his good works would speak for him in the 2027 election.

The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Nwaobilor Ananaba, assured the group of government support and pledged to mobilize youths across the state in support of the administration.
Similarly, the Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Obialor Denis Anyanwu, reaffirmed his administration’s support for the movement, while the Member representing Aba Central State Constituency, Hon. Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu, commended Fr. Anokwuru for conceptualizing what he described as a strategic grassroots political structure.

The Mayor of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, encouraged members to remain steadfast and used the opportunity to inform youths about ongoing federal recruitment programmes aimed at enhancing grassroots security and community development.

Also speaking, Engr. Adolphus I. M. Chukwu described Governor Otti’s achievements as widely acknowledged both within and outside Nigeria and called for the expansion of Echezona to other parts of the state, including Bende.
Chairman of Ariaria International Market, Chief Polycarp Mojiuba, pledged the market leadership’s full support for the movement and expressed confidence that Governor Otti would continue the transformation of Abia beyond 2027.

Vice Chairman of Ariaria International Market and Ezeudo I of Arochukwu, Mazi Ufere Inyama, also assured the organization of logistical support, including the provision of office accommodation within the market.

Speaking on behalf of members of Ikonne, Boundary, Ugochukwu and adjoining streets, Mrs. Iheanaetu Augusta expressed delight on their successful inauguration and pledged to intensify grassroots mobilization efforts within her area.
The Capacity Coordinator assured members that they would leverage the numerical strength to attract more supporters and strengthen the movement’s presence in their streets.
The event, widely regarded as a major grassroots political gathering, attracted numerous stakeholders from across the state and culminated in the inauguration of key officials, including the State Chairman, Comrade Michael Chijioke Amaku; Secretary, Nkiruka Ukaonu Olivia; Mrs. Favour Okafor; Metu John; Godwin Chinyere; Hon. Stephen Akpulonu; Hon. Anthony Ejiogu; Nkechi Sandra; Ibori Chijioke; King David Hilary; Princess Chika Jennifer; Comrade Ndukwe Onyekachi Gabriel; Victor Opara Ibekwe; Mrs. Iheanaetu Augusta (Coordinator, Ikonne, Boundary, Ugochukwu and adjoining streets); Happiness Nweke (Coordinator of Osusu Ward 1) and several others.

The inauguration underscored the growing momentum of grassroots political mobilization in support of Governor Alex Otti and other Labour Party candidates in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
