ABIA ANGELS CHAIRMAN HAILS OTTI’S SPORTS REVOLUTION
Chairman of Abia Angels Football Club, Mr. Nwosu Johnson Alozie (popularly known as JJ), has commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti for what he described as the remarkable transformation of sports in Abia State, attributing the resurgence of the state’s teams to the governor’s unwavering support and commitment.
Alozie, a former General Secretary of Enyimba International Football Club during the club’s historic back-to-back CAF Champions League triumphs, spoke after receiving the Excellence Service Award in Club Management during the maiden School of Business and Management Technology (SBMT) Day of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, he disclosed that he was pleasantly surprised when the Dean of SBMT, Dr. Chinweoke Nwaeze, informed him that both he and Abia Angels goalkeeper, Miss Fatima Oloko, who is currently representing Nigeria at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, had been selected for the honour.
He described sports as a powerful platform for personal development and urged students to combine academics with sporting activities while placing God at the centre of their aspirations.
According to him, his career in football has reinforced his belief that lasting success comes through hard work, discipline and faith in God.
Reflecting on the fortunes of Abia Angels FC, Alozie said the club had undergone a remarkable transformation under the present administration.
He noted that while the team previously struggled to compete at the highest level, it has now emerged as one of the leading contenders in the Nigeria Women’s Football League, attributing the turnaround to Governor Otti’s vision and sustained support.
The football administrator also praised the Governor’s wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, for her passion and encouragement towards the club, saying both have consistently demonstrated genuine commitment to the growth of women’s football in the state.
He expressed confidence that the club would reward the government’s investment with outstanding performances and make the people of Abia proud in the current season.
Alozie also commended the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Nwaobilor Ananaba, describing him as an exceptional administrator whose impact extends beyond football.
He said the commissioner had revitalized several sporting disciplines across the state, including para sports, boxing, basketball, volleyball, school sports and grassroots competitions, thereby promoting youth development and unity.
According to him, the renewed attention to sports has repositioned Abia as one of Nigeria’s emerging sporting destinations and created opportunities for talented athletes to excel.
He prayed for God’s continued guidance and strength for Governor Otti and members of his administration as they continue to reposition the state through purposeful leadership.
