It was jubilation galore as the women of Isiala Ngwa North local government area of Abia State celebrated their 2024 August Meeting with Abia First Lady, Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti.
The colourful event with the theme, “Women as Home Builders’ held at Isiala Ngwa North Motor Park, Isiala Ngwa Junction on Friday, August 16, 2024 under the distinguished chairmanship of Sir Cyprian Nwankwo, the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa North local government area.
In his opening remarks, Sir Cyprian Nwankwo congratulated the women on their 2024 August Meeting.
He appreciated them for choosing him to chair the occasion and assured them of his continued support.
He expressed profound gratitude to the wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti for honouring their invitation as well as her tremendous love and support.
He lauded Dr. Alex Chioma Otti’s purposeful leadership of Abia State and assured him of their unwavering support.
Speaking, Mrs. Cynthia Nwankwo, wife of the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa North local government area thanked Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti for gracing the occasion despite her tight schedule.
She said that the theme of their August Meeting is a testament to the wife of Abia governor’s determination to enhance the lot of Abia women through agriculture and empowerment programmes.
She noted that this year’s August Meeting has touched the lives of the women positively in so many ways and urged them to embrace farming, skill acquisition and petty trading in order to cope with the prevailing economic hardship across the nation.
She extolled the giant strides of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR) in Abia State describing him as a gender-friendly governor whose love for Abia women is unquantifiable and prayed God to continue to bless him and his family.
In her address, the wife of the governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti appreciated the large turnout of women, top government officials, Labour Party faithful, Onu Ugu Women for Dr. Alex Otti, Abia Arise Women, members of the National Council of Women Society (NCWS), members of LOGLA and other distinguished personalities.
She expressed delight to be in their midst saying that the August Meeting is a special day for reaching out to the women and the less-privileged.
She described the 2024 Isiala Ngwa North Women August Meeting with the theme, “Women As Home Builders” as apt.
She said that the theme envisions a woman that nurtures and supports her household saying that she is happy and proud to be in the midst of such strong, resilient and inspiring women like them who have not only shaped their homes but also have made a profound impact on their various communities, the state and the entire nation.
According to her, women have always shouldered the responsibility of managing their homes, raising their children and upholding the values that strengthen their families.
She explained that the traditional role of women as home builders has expanded into something even more powerful.
She called on them to take full advantage of the economic opportunities around them in agriculture and entrepreneurship to continue to discharge their role as home builders effectively to the glory of God.
She noted that the agricultural sector of Abia State under Dr. Alex Chioma Otti’s administration holds tremendous potentials for growth and prosperity for them.
She told them to go about their farm work without fear as Dr. Alex Chioma Otti’s administration has taken decisive measures to rid Abia forests and farmlands of critical threats.
She expressed happiness that Abia State is now secure, notwithstanding the antics of the opposition adding that Dr. Alex Chioma Otti would defeat them, the way he subdued those at the Umunneochi axis of the state.
She disclosed that the state government under the able leadership of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti is disbursing an interest-free cooperative loan to micro and small-scale entrepreneurs across the state and urged them to avail themselves of the opportunity to expand their businesses and secure their future.
She promised that they would continue to support the women through various interventions even from the federal government adding that the interest-free loan would be sustained and extended to more people at the grassroots.
She appealed to the women to fill their homes with love, peace and understanding and to instill in their children good moral values of hard work, honesty, compassion, responsibility and godliness in order to make them, the state and the nation proud.
She enjoined them to forget all their differences and come together in order to take the state to greater height.
She commended the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa North, Sir Cyprian Nwankwo, his beautiful wife, Cynthia and others for making the occasion a huge success.
She said that Dr. Alex Otti has done so many good things in the state within a very short time in office, especially regular payment of workers’ salaries/pensions, road construction and rehabilitation adding that he has a lot more in store for the state.
She charged the women to sustain their support and prayers for him adding that with him in the saddle Abia would be truly number one state in the federation by the grace of God.
At the end of her speech, she donated 50 bags of rice including cash and wrappers to the women.
In a vote of thanks, Hon. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, the member representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency appreciated the wife of the governor for attending the Women August Meeting describing it as a profound demonstration of her love for the people of Isiala Ngwa North local government area.
He commended Sir Cyprian Nwankwo, the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa North local government area and his wife, Cynthia for organizing the Women August Meeting.
He expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Alex Chioma Otti for his commitment to advancing agricultural programmes in the state as well as his support for micro and small-scale businesses.
He said that the people of Isiala Ngwa North local government area are great farmers and called on them to take advantage of the present administration’s agricultural programmes to ensure food sufficiency in the area and entire state.
He reiterated his unwavering support for Dr. Alex Otti’s administration adding that they would give him one hundred and one percent votes in the 2027 election.
He thanked the Abia First Lady for identifying with them and wished her safe journey back to her destination.
Highlights of the occasion were match pass, a lecture delivered by Dr. Mrs. Nwachukwu U. J. C, the Health Authority Secretary, Isiala Ngwa North local government area, choreography and presentation of farm crops including vegetables, plantain among others to Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti by the Onu Ugu Women for Dr. Alex Otti, Isiala Ngwa North.
In her speech while presenting the farm crops to Abia First Lady, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, the Coordinator of Onu Ugu Women for Dr. Alex Otti, Isiala Ngwa North, Hon. Mrs. Blessing Moses appreciated her for gracing the occasion as well as her love and continued support for them and the entire Abia women.
She said that the Onu Ugu Women for Dr. Alex Otti are farmers stating that all they need is an enabling environment, funding and government support.
She disclosed that the crops they presented to her were gotten from their farms and told her to come with trailer to carry all that they would give her next year stating that it would be so enormous.
She extolled Dr. Alex Chioma Otti’s Impactful leadership of the state, especially in terms of regular payment of workers’ salaries on or before the 28th day of every month, road construction and rehabilitation to mention but a few.
She said that Dr. Alex Otti has done them proud and promised to continue to galvanize support for him.
She wished him God’s abundant blessings and protection as he continues to pilot the affairs of Abia State to greater height adding that there is no vacancy at Government House, Umuahia come 2027.
On her part, Lady Henrietta Udi, the President of Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Ladies Association (LOGLA) expressed great happiness with the Abia First Lady, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti for coming to celebrate the August Meeting with them.
She said that her presence not only added glamour to the event but also afforded most of them the opportunity of seeing her for the first time.
She said that they benefitted a lot from her talk and appreciated her for giving them 50 bags of rice, cash and wrappers.
She described the August Meeting as a very significant event in their life. According to her, they learn so many things during their August Meeting such as how to make soap, sew clothes or start petty business.
She emphasized that skill acquisition is the key now and advised all to acquire skill instead of looking for job.
She posited that agriculture is the only way out of the increasing economic hardship across the nation and urged everybody to engage in it.
According to her, if you plant any crop within three months you would harvest it and use it to take care of your family adding that most of them in the villages are not hungry because they get what they eat from their farms such as cassava, yam, palm oil, pepper, maize, plantain, vegetables among others.
The event attracted the presence of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Hon. Mrs. Chinwe Onyeukwu, the Deputy Mayor of Isiala Ngwa North, Hon. Sir Uchenna Nwambuko, Hon. Chief Mrs. Nkechinyere Chibueze, Labour Party Woman Leader, Isiala Ngwa North among others.
